Seattle cellist, Lori Goldston
will premiere new compositions in response to Mary’s Dust
, a forthcoming poetry collection by Melinda Mueller
. We will be recording this evening’s haunting and demanding music to include with the book. Mary’s Dust
is a meditation on the role of language, exposure, concealment, pleasure and pain as women create their identities on their own terms, using the trope of poems and forms based on different historical Marys.
It is fitting that this work will be performed for the first time at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Center, once a home and hospital for “wayward women.”
In addition to this new suite of music, Goldston will be performing classical repertoire and compositions by other contemporary composers.
